The drawn outer ring roller clutch is a one-way clutch that includes a thin wall, a stamped outer ring with a series of ramps on the inner diameter, a plastic cage, a spring and a needle roller. It can transmit torque in one direction and is radially compact. Roller clutches may or may not have bearing assemblies.
The drawn outer ring roller clutch has a very precise indexing, as each needle is held by a single spring, thus ensuring continuous contact between the shaft, the needle and the clamping surface. Due to its small mass, the inertia of the clamping element is very low, allowing for high indexing frequencies. And the idling friction torque is low.
Drawn cup roller clutches can be used in a variety of applications, such as indexing elements, return clutches or overrunning clutches. The drawn outer ring roller clutch properly performs the override or action function.
